THE HAGUE (AFP) – A Dutchman fined for stopping at a green light so as not to run over a cat had his money returned Monday, the court said.

Cees Schuurmans was fined 75 euros (95 dollars) last year for waiting for roughly two minutes at a green traffic light, Vincent de Winkel told AFP.

"He said he was waiting for a cat to cross over to the other side."

A magistrate in the western city of Rotterdam said there was no evidence there had been no cat and ordered the authorities to give Schuurmans his money back.
